ASIC miners
The industrial machine that mines Bitcoin: specialized chips, huge fans, serious power draw.
In plain words
An ASIC miner is the whole machine: boards of mining chips, a heavy power supply, fans that never rest. A modern unit draws the power of several space heaters, around the clock, and roars like a vacuum. This is industry, not furniture. Home mining survives where electricity is cheap — or where the heat itself is put to work.
Why it matters
- The physical layer of Bitcoin's security — someone, somewhere, runs these.
- Electricity price decides everything; the hardware is secondary.
- New chips retire old machines in a few years. The treadmill spares no one.
Numbers that matter
- 3–4 kW — typical draw of a modern unit.
- ~75+ dB — stock fan noise, roughly a vacuum cleaner.
Not to be confused with
- Node hardware — checking Bitcoin takes a quiet mini-PC, not one of these.
