Hashrate is the combined guessing speed of every Bitcoin miner on earth — quintillions of tries per second, from warehouses of purpose-built machines. The higher it climbs, the more an attack costs: an attacker must outrun all of it, alone. It cannot be measured directly, only estimated from how fast blocks arrive.

Why it matters
