Inheritance planning
Making sure your bitcoin outlives you without giving up custody while you live.
In plain words
Self-custody has a hard edge: coins move only with your keys. Die without a plan and your bitcoin dies with you — frozen, visible to your heirs, spendable by no one. Millions of coins are estimated lost forever — many exactly this way. A plan means your heirs can find the keys, recognize them, and use them: clear instructions stored separately from the seed, or multisig that splits control among people you choose. No lawyer's letter moves bitcoin. Only keys do.
Why it matters
- An heir who cannot find the seed inherits nothing.
- An heir who finds it but understands nothing can be scammed out of it.
- Sovereignty that dies with you was never complete.
Not to be confused with
- A will — courts transfer titles, not keys. A will that spells out your seed becomes a public theft instruction.
