Store of value

Money's savings job: holding value across time without asking anyone's permission.

In plain words

A store of value is where you park purchasing power to reclaim later. The enemy is dilution: currencies are printed at will, and savings quietly pay for it. Bitcoin's case rests on rules, not promises — a fixed supply no committee can raise, held by you without a bank's leave. Its price swings hard; over short stretches it has punished savers as often as rewarded them. What it refuses to do, ever, is inflate. Judge that trade yourself.

Why it matters

  • Savings are deferred life. What they're stored in decides who controls them.
  • Fixed supply turns saving from a bet on policy into a bet on adoption.
  • Volatility is the honest price of an asset no one manages.

Not to be confused with

  • Investment advice — this page describes properties. Your savings are your judgment.
